GTA Identifies 17 Parliamentary Seats To Be Contested In Johor, Says Mukhriz

GERAKAN Tanah Air (GTA) has identified 17 out of 26 parliamentary seats in Johor for the coalition to contest in the general election (GE), its vice-president Mukhriz Mahathir said.

He said all were Malay-majority seats, including Pagoh, where the incumbent is Perikatan Nasional (PN) president Muhyiddin Yassin.

“However, the shortlist will be finalized tomorrow before it is officially announced on November 2. Of course, we are serious about providing candidates, we do not participate for fun.

“We are aware that we have a tough fight from long-standing parties in Johor such as Umno,” said Mukhriz, who is also the Pejuang chairman, after launching the Johor GTA car in Batu Pahat today.

It was earlier reported that the GTA was planning to contest 120 parliamentary seats in the GE. The coalition consists of Pejuang, the Indian Muslim National Alliance Party (Iman), Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra) and Parti Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia (Berjasa).

On several coalitions refusing to cooperate with the GTA for GE, Mukhriz said this may be because they have already completed their seat allocation.

“When we talk about political cooperation, there will definitely be places that they would have to sacrifice for other coalitions, so that could be the reason,” Mukhriz said.

The Electoral Commission has set November 19 as voting day, November 5 for nominations, and early voting will take place on November 15. – Bernama, October 29, 2022.
